Field Study 6

Image
Date: 11/29/22 Time: 6 PM Climate: A little cloudy, but very nice night overall. Temp: 32 Degrees F Length of Day: 9 Hours and 17 Minutes Organisms: I saw only 1 organism today but it was a big one. I saw a bunny dart by as I walked up to my field study. I was hoping it would stop in a place I could take a picture of it but as I got my camera out my dog barked and it ran away. I came later so it was a little darker and hard to see very many other organisms. Changes: The biggest change is the snow being gone today. It was there for my last field study and I was expecting it to be back for this one but it was gone. The corn is also cut down and I can't remember if it was up or down last time I was there. the grass seems to be a little more patted down after the snow, and the ground was a little more wet than usual. The water level looks about the same as last time.

Date: 11/15/22 Time: 4 PM Climate: Snowy, slightly windy, overcast. Temp: 33 Degrees F Length of Day: 9 Hours and 43 Minutes Organisms: Not very much movement today, one of the first snowy days and most organisms seem to be staying away. I was out for longer than usual doing my soundmap but still had no large organisms. I did hear quite a few birds chirping in the distance and saw the same usual algae in the water, but that was about it. Changes: Lots of changes this field study. The most noticeable of these of course being the snow on the ground. Also the corn has been cut down and the water level has dropped. The cattails seem to be a lot more droopy than they have been in the past and the trees are completely bare of leaves. The snow stopped while I was out there but has since picked back up again. Also no organisms is a big change from the first four as in those even if there was nothing big, there could usually be a few insects and possibly a frog, but nothing today.

Field Study 4

Date: 10/31/22 Time: 4 PM Climate: Overcast, slightly drizzly Temp: 59 Degrees F Length of Day: 10 Hours and 21 Minutes Organisms: When I walked out I saw a little white bunny dart into the cornfield. This is probably the biggest thing I have seen at my field study so far. I was also there a few days ago and saw a deer running into the field, I got a picture of it when it was on the other side of my yard, so it wasn't directly in my 30x30 box, but it was close enough that I thought I would include it. I also saw some animal poop that shows there are more animals there, if you catch them at the right time. Changes: The plants, and the cornfield continue to get more of a yellow tint. The water level continues to rise as it rains more and more, and continues to be the highest I have seen it. The corn will be coming down soon, and the leaves have been coming off the trees.

Field Study 3

Date: 10/14/22 Time: 4:00 PM Climate: Partly Cloudy, Slight Breeze Temp: 55 Degrees F Length of Day: 11 Hours and 7 Minutes Organisms: Not very many today, mostly just algae, as shown in my picture of the water. Could hear the crickets chirping, and saw a few worms and other small creatures, but a fairly quiet day in terms of wildlife.  Changes: Today there were the most changes I have seen in my study so far this year. The corn has gone from mostly green with a slight yellow, to completely yellow as we near harvest. It may be gone completely by the next time I get there. With the heavy rain this week, this is the highest the water level has been, being close to my knee at its deepest level. As we get into fall the entire field has began to get more yellow than it was before.

Date: 09/30/22 Time: 3:30 Climate: Clear skies, sunny, slight breeze Temp: 66 Degrees F Length of day: 11 Hours and 46 Minutes Organisms: There again was algae, but the water level dropped in the first picture has dropped since last time. There were a few insects and could hear crickets. The biggest organism I saw was a praying mantis. As soon as I walked up I saw it walking through the grass out of the corner of my eye, I got a great picture (2nd and 3rd pictures). Changes: The water level has dropped an inch or two since the last time I went. Last time I went it was a day after it rained, while today it has been a few days since rain. The corn is more yellow in the plant, and that makes the entire field look like a shade of yellow, as opposed to the green it looked like last time. Everything else still is very similar, and hasn't changed a lot.

Date: 09/12/22 Time: 3:30 PM Climate:Fairly cloudy, no rain, slightly humid. Temp: 64 Degrees F Length of Day: 12 Hours and 38 minutes Organisms: As shown in the first picture, there was some algae in the water, which was about ankle deep. There was a frog hopping near the water but it hopped into the cat tails before I had a chance to get a picture. There were also many insects and some butterflies. The next picture was a general overview of my sight. The final picture is a picture of the cornfield. Changes: No changes as this is my first field study.
